This question crops up quite a lot, when a new potential pupil is inquiring about driving lessons and they insist on having a female driving instructor. When I ask as to why it has to be a female the normal response is that they feel more comfortable with a female.
I can understand this point to a certain respect but these days all driving instructors are CRB checked to make sure they are not a complete weirdo, so is it that the reputation of driving instructors in the old days is so bad - that people still think driving instructors are ’strange’.
What do you think? I’m interested!

Hi,
Online Defensive Driving Schools are very helpful in these days. No one learn the driving themselves. They need others help. The schools are proving the court approved courses. And the courses are very easy to learn.

I cant understand why anyone would state what sex instructor they require. As long as they are a qualified driving instructor then they are still going to be able to teach you irrespectively to their sex. Although there has been a number of news articles about male driving instructors touching pupils legs, which might make them leave that instructor and request a female.

I’ve gotta say, I was the other way and wanted a male instructor, prob cause I had this belief that men are better drivers and more patient in their working environment, god was i wrong! my first instructor was male, and scared the hell out of me, i had never even sat in a driving seat and he seemed slightly annoyed that i was nervous!!! he got irritated that i just wasn’t understanding all the jargon like MSPSL and understand road markings and signs!! he made me so nervous, i was glad when he had to leave due to family commitments, i then just randomly went on the net and emailed a local company, the guy phoned and said he was busy but his partner would call me ( a female) i decided i would do a block of 10 with her then get a guy (thoughts of pmt, kids and scattyness) but bloody hell she was and is fab, i’m ashamed cause i am a female and should really be all for “girl power” but think cause i was brought up by a mainly male family 2 of which were hold their adi, and 1, who is an examiner, i just kinda thought men were better at the drivin thing!!! i wouldn’t particularly ask for a female adi when my kids start to learn but really have changed my opinion and i’m glad my instructor is fab (whether male or female)

Gettin lots of call from certain religios backgrounds who NEED a female instructor. Gutted as my partner who was an ADI has elected to come of the register as she has lost her confidence to teach after an illness. Hate giving pupils away. Arghh

I feel many young ladies are sensitive and want their driving instructor to focus on driving and not be destracted into irrelevant conversation. I have had many female students who decided to switch from a female driving instructor and have made very quick progress leading success in their test. My magic formula is simple greeting, any talking is aimed at driving and plenty of driving practice.

You are absolutely right. As a driving instructor i have come across few similar situations, but my understanding is most people are not aware of CRB checks and for that reason DSA should make general public aware that they are safe with their Driving Instructors.

Very important question. Gerenal public are not aware that all driving instructors are checked for CRB and any complaint against them can potentially ruin their career. So come on ladies choose driving instructor who you think is competent and able rather then their gendre.

This is really very interesting. In my opinion it is required to select driving instructor with whom you feel comfortable.
