Had a great example of the importance of looking where you are going whilst on a driving lesson last week.
My pupil pulled out left onto a main road and was immediately confronted with a pedestrian crossing that was just turning to red, we stopped safely and my attention immediately focused on the car behind, they just about stopped, much to my relief, unfortunately the next car behind them didn’t and went right into the back of them!
Getting out to see if there was an damage to my car, I could hear the conversation between the two unfortunate drivers that had collided, it was along the lines of
‘why did you stop?’
‘well the learner in front had stopped’
To which I came in with the fact that the light was on red, to be confronted with,
‘well it’s never been red before in all the years I’ve been coming out of this road’
I did explain the virtues of looking where you are going but it seemed to fall on deaf ears!
My pupil then added that perhaps he should read the highway code!

Great article!
We’re confronted with constant distractions while driving every day whether it is our fault or not. How we react and pay attention to them is what is most important.

You really need to know where you are going so that you know the rules and regulation in that place specially if there’s a traffic you can set an alternative route on how you get off with it.And also for the pedestrian lane to avoid accident for both driver and people walking along.

An examiner told one of my pupils after failing a test once.
“My dear there is a big difference between looking and seeing”
Could not agree more

It is very important that you have focus when you are driving in the road.Generally knowing your right track can help you to prevent accident. And also it is your obligation to follow the rules in the road so better regulate it for your safety.

Great story!
It’s amazing how people drive from memory, rather than by actually looking. Sounds like that driver was simply on ‘auto pilot’!

A far too common scene I fear. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the driver at the back who shunts into the car in front. So it is certainly a lesson to be observant and alert at all times - even on roads which seem all too familiar.

I totally agree that it is absolutely essential to look ahead and be aware of what is there and respond accordingly.

It really matters to know the right direction where are you going and you need to have focus on it.As a driver you hold the life of your passengers and and so it is your responsibility to take them safely as well as the people outside your lane.

Driving college means spending a couple of hours with a parent or sibling in an empty car park or getting a driving experience in the shape of school-sponsored driver education courses.

That example illustrate that you must base your action according to road traffic rules and follow the instructions given by traffic lights.

Looking to where your going applies to all area of life and matter. It is important to see what is ahead of you and notice the thing around you to prepare for it.

You are absolutely right, unless you look where you are going you are unlikely to avoid any hazards ahead of you.
